Hello Everyone.
I got my PSP yesterday and I have absolutely no Idea what you are all talking about. Why should I downgrade? How can I downgrade? And what then?
I startet reading all the entries in this forum, but after 148 I lost my patience and wondered if someone could help me please....

what are some questions you want answered.ill try but im also still a newb to this all myself.well basically downgrading and then going to a custom firmwire will allow you to play games off your memory stick,change icons,change font,change backgrounds,gameboots (when u start up ur umd and it has that white psp intro before the game starts) and things like that.its kinda hard to understand but also always remember that you can brick your psp by doing this if u do it wrong.u just gotta really read alot alot alot alot untill you get it.thats what i did :) well anything else that you would like to know? sorry if it was not so well answered.but let me know if u got anything to ask.ill try my best to help you.

downgrading allows u to run backup isos/homebrew

how to downgrade depends on what firmware ur psp currently has. currently the highest fw that could be downdated is 3.03

first you need to know what firmware is your psp ,you must have firmware 1.5 to install dark alex custom firmware ,if you dont have 1.5 you need to downgrade, and you need to know which motherboard you have some downgraders support all motherboards others dont

to know what motherboard you have see this, if you have a pink psp the motherboard is a ta-086

ok lets put it this way

v 1.5 was kind of new, so it led to people savy enough to run their own apps, anything up from 1.5 blocked this, so lets say somebody who knows enough from emulators run an app in 1.5 wich was an emmulator

Bingo! you got an snes emmulator on psp as well as some umd backups

then sony made theyre newest games mandatory to be over 1.5, how they did that they include all the files u need to upgrade to the newest version, what dark alex did, make a custom firmware wich puts you up to v3.03 so upgrade is not needed and 1.5 advantages are left, my advice go into 3.03oe-b at least, maybe oe-c

If you really want to be sure it works, check your motherboard. But custom firmware works with any psp motherboard, so don't worry too much about it.

On the other hand downgrading your psp you have to check. Open your UMD disc port and look inside of the psp board. If it says TA-082 backwards DO NOT DOWNGRADE USE CUSTOM FIRMWARE.

PSP life: 1.00 > 1.50 > 2.00 > 2.50 > 2.60 > 2.71 > 2.81 >> 1.50 > 3.03 OE-C > 3.52 M33-3 > 3.90 M33-3 > 5.00 M33-6 - Trying to go back to 3.90 M33-3 but no one will help me :(
