My computer's play skips and has no audio when playing disks

I bought recently Lightscribe DVD +- Writer/CD - Writer. It just skips when playing disks. It copies them fine and makes perfect backups whenever I need them but it doesn't spend a second without skipping. It came with my computer and the guy at Circuit City said it was good, so what's the deal???

What is the brand name and model # of the burner? What blank media are you using to copy the DVD's? Is the firmware up to date? This most likely is the blank media that is causing the problem but the other info will help.

original dvd's don't play either. what is firmware and how do I update it? It is a Lightscribe and I'm not sure about the firmware

If it skips on reading original and homemade DVDs then you need to take it back as there is a problem w/ that burner. Return it for another brand

then you need to bite the bullet and pay to replace it. lightscribe is mostly junk, anyway.
