Writing(burning) at 16X will often result in coaster making. As a general rule, use half the speed the media is rated at. You may need to burn at 8X speed, at worst 4X. The quality of the media used, will have the most impact on burning speeds and final quality. Here's a link to a media quality guide.

It doesn't look like your burner recognizes your blanks.
Insert empty disc to write to.
(Medium in drive: unknown. Medium required by compilation: DVD+R/RW, DVD-R/RW, DVD-RAM, DVD-R DL, DVD+R DL.)
You may need to update your firmware as well.
