DVD version 2 are 2x DVDs if they are DVD-R. I had to read the Toshiba guide three times to get that out, but yes it will be able to burn at 2x speed if you have a 2x burner.
Really? The online place where I'm prob going to order the disks has a burner comparison chart and all listed at 1x...
Any idea why they wouldn't just be called 2x instead of v2?
Thats not entirely correct. Version 2 could be an update to the dye used on the disc. For example Ritek G04 had a v2 dye on them. Generally though, i think most suppliers do tend to relate version to speed.
So I guess to find out forsure I need to goto the official optodisc site and find out? Maybe 4x will end up being not much more money and I'll go with that :)
I was tempted to use ritek, but my flakey ps2 seems to work with optodisc and dvdxcopy or alchol 120% for backups. That seems to be the only combo that satisfies it :)
These end up being cheaper anyway (and prob going to get the 4x on sale)
It says "DVD-R, V2.0", it's a standard, I believe for 1x-2x 4.7GB media, just as 4x media is "DVD-R 2.2".
It might be 2x but also is not necessarily so.
I really am disappointed on some of your knowledge on the matter. Haven't read the dvd faq? Atleast the original and official meaning of dvd-r 2.0 refers to the space on the disc, as 1.0 has 3.68 gigs and 2.0 has 4.37 gigs.
There are Generation 2's, 2.4's, 4's 4.2's etc... that i have seen. I would guess dye, but who really knows for sure without getting on to a supplier or manufacturer
After reading a bunch of websites, sounds to me like a not uniform manufature term. I guess the best thing is to visit the website of the company and try and find out how they define it.
There's a difference between "DVD-R V2.0" and "Generation 2" ou "Version 2 dye" or whatever. The first is a universal standard, the second a manufacturer thing.
