memory card slot flashes

i have a psp which wont detect the memory card which is brand new.
the memory card slot for psp keeps flashing with or wihtout a memory card flashes.

can anyone help

perhaps if you put your ms in your psp then go to system settings
and format your ms?

can you see your memory stick in the menu's? if you do select it push triangle and select properties write down what you can see
