My local supplier recently started stocking these DVD-R's cheaply. Anyone know anything about the quality of the disc?
Code from ADVDInfo:

Sadly a lot of big name media companies are buying 4x discs from CMC. They must have a great powerpoint presentation to use in sales meetings or something.
Imation, Verbatim, and TDK use them now (but not exclusively.) No easy way to tell until you buy a spool or hear that someone bought from the same store you plan from during the same promotional period, and not even then are you really sure.

yeah, it's a shame...any ideas how I can tell what brands re-label ritek these days (without having to buy a sample?)
reason i ask is, that in australia - DVD-R is still pretty expensive to buy a good brand (usually between 10 and 12 AU$ each)
i was reading some posts earlier that the difference in price between riteks and other not so reliable brands, can be as low as 40 or 50p (in UK)

CMC has become pretty popular at a lot of the local "super" stores. Too bad companies dont let you know on the cases who exactly made the disk for them.
Oriphus-Exactly why are CMC disks bad? Before I knew better I ended up buying a lot of Verbatims that are CMC. So far they have been very good as far as compatability and overall any playback/burn problems were my own fault. Do they go bad after time?
Thanks

They are not bad, i just tested some and wasnt happy with them. Verbatim are a great disc i hear, but i have had no experience with them, so i couldnt confirm or deny that. A lot of people are happy with Verbatims, the discs i tested were unbranded marked as CMC.

Guys, these Imation (CMC) discs have been okay so far. They're compatible with my very picky Toshiba stand alone and burn fine with my Pioneer 105.
Time will tell if they lose data.
Any real problems with em' and I'll let everyone know =)

It does display information but not of ALL DVDs ive tried leading me to believe that maybe another software is comprehensive.
I know it works. But is there one that WORKS BETTER (More comprehensive) ?
Thanks
