Cd rom won'r read audio but will read dvd? HELP!!!

I have a Sony CD-DVD RW model D22A---- recently, I was gonna burn a audo cd with Nero, and it kept asking for a writeable cd, and i put several blsnk cd's in it, but it wouldn't read it. So I tried a burnt DVD and it read it. I tried uninstalling my dvd rom and reinstalling it, but I am still having the same problem. Can anybody solve my problem???? Hints?
