what is the purpose of a no solder modchip if u need swap magic to use it n e ways?

you don't need swap magic at all with a modchip, that is the whole reason for getting one. Not only that but it is a better way to play back up's then swap magic as well (assuming you get a good one)
other benefits to a good mod chip over Swap Magic:
1. no swapping
2. no rebuilding of games
3. no replacing the fliptop
4. plays both NTSC and PAL with no screen cut off
5. some chips can play DVD9 (dual layer) back ups
6. no TOC refresh needed
and more.

The first one is not even a REAL mod chip. It is just something that stops the PS2 from resetting when you swap. You could just get Swap Magic and a fliptop case and it would do the same thing.
The second one i have no idea about as i do not know anyone who actually used one.

that is a real solderless chip. But it only works with
versions V5-V15


if you payed to have it installed a soldered in chip is a much better option and would cost you about the same as a good solderless chip. Plus a lot of people tend to break the solderless chip when installing it.
Figure it this way, a real solderless chip will cost you $70
a soldered in chip you can send your PS2 off to somewhere like Teammodders.com, that is about $15. Then have them solder in the chip for you ($35 plus the price of the chip)
If you got a nice stable chip like the Duo3 which will play all your back ups but have no real advanced functions that would be another $30
so total your looking at $80 instead of $70 and it is professionally done and a much better way to go. If you want to spend more you can get a Crystal Chip V2.0, Matrix Infinity green dot, or DMS4 Pro SE chip which are pretty much the best 3 chips there are.

i know this sounds like a real noob question but why are there soo many mod chips with different priices for ps2 if they all do the same thing like play backups?

they all play backups , yes. But some of the better chips can do much more than just play backups. Like the DMS4 Pro SE that can also play homebrew applications (ELF files) has a built in cheat device like AR Max, and has support to run a hard drive.
The Crystal Chip V2.0 i think has these functions as well, except for the cheat device. Most of the very low priced chips are what we call "clone chips". someone makes a cheap chip that uses old firmware from one of the good chips. Which means it will do everything that good chip could about a year ago, but if you try to upgrade the firmware you will just fry the chip.
Then there is the Duo 3 chip. Which is a good, stable chip with a low price for people who only want a chip that plays buck up discs and nothing more.

It is like anything else. There are all different manufacturers making chips, and teams of people making the firmware they run on. Some are top of the line (Crystal Chip V2.0, Matrix Infinity green dot & DMS4 Pro SE), some are just average (Duo 3), and some are just down right crap (modbo and other clone chips).
if you can afford it then i would get the best that you can. If all you want is something to play backup discs, then the Duo 3 will do just fine.

Yeah steimy is right, a solder chip like the CC2.0 is the best way to go.
