pstwo and usb HDD - how to play games from it?

I've got my PSTwo, SwapMagic 3.6 and a USB hard drive. I'm at the stage where the PSTwo sees the USB drive and I can load ELF Launcher off the HD with Swap Magic. So the only question I have left is how do I get it to see the games on the HD?
I've tried copying Devil May Cry 3 over with the USB Extreme util but when I boot to the HD it doesn't see the game. I've also tried just copying the game over as an ISO but that didn't work either.

Is there another way?
