CD RW won't read audio or blank cd's

My DVD RW went on the blink the other night. My dvd's still play and I can still burn DVD's, but no cd's. I am running Window's XP Home edition. I use Nero 7 to burn with. What can I do to fix this problem? Someone told me it was the "audio cd cable", but my dvd rw does,'t carry one. Can you help me? I am thinking about trying a new DVD RW drive, what do you all think?
