I got my new Dbox 2 from ebay, which all seems to start up ok - but when it scans doesn't find any channels.
Reading the forums and Dbox2 for dummies (thats me!!) it appears you need to FTP the correct cables.xml and services.xml files for my area (Warrington nr Liverpool).

Can anyone advise me where I can get the correct files? I can't find any info on this bit anywhere

the cable.xml file informs the box what frequency to scan on - the services file is created when a scan of channels is done.

what are you are eNnnnnnnnnnnTeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeL or TW - you need to choose 6887 for N__T__L and the other for TW then do a scan with fast scan set to off

what image are you using ?.
is it a uk modified image ?

have you set the scan up properly

cable provider 6952

netid 41060
frequency 666750
symbol rate 6952

should be correct for warrington.

scanning correctly will create a service.xml for you.

How do I tell if the box has a uk mod image and what image is installed?
Can you explain the scan procedure?

Sorry if I sound a dope but I haven't a clue about all this!

To miss out scanning if you have used FTP before you could copy the service files directly from your pc to dbox.

The files can be found at Http://techno-source.co.uk/phpbb once registered under the downloads section

you can find the image name by
dbox
service
image information (yellow button)

The information I gave you here
Quote:

cable provider 6952

netid 41060
frequency 666750
symbol rate 6952

should be correct for warrington.

with fast scan on will mean the scan only takes less than 3 minutes unless your using an old image that doesn't support netid scanning.

to get to the scanning menu
dbox
service
service scan (green button)

What is commando 7.1?

you can edit the /var/tuxbox/config/scan.conf and manually change it.

commando is a made for the uk image, your using either an unmodified sportster or a badly modified sportster. Sportster is compiled for the european market and needs modifying to work in the UK, the odds are once it scans it won't decode anyway.

"you can edit the /var/tuxbox/config/scan.conf and manually change it" can this be done via the dbox menu or by pc?

Where can I find out how to do all the changes that you say?

As I mentioned earlier I'm a complete newbie so it's all a bit mind boggling at the moment.

blue (button)
if you get something called tuxcom, tuxbox commander then run that
scroll down to
var
ok (button)
tuxbox
ok (button)
config
ok (button)
scan.conf
4 (button)
scroll down to TP_rate=6887
ok (button)
replace 887 with 952 (same as a mobile phone)
scroll to TP_freq=571000
ok (button)
replace 571000 with 666750(same as a mobile phone)
home (button)
red (button) to save
then home (button) a few times till your back to the box then reboot and it should now be
Symbol Rate: 6887
Frequency 666750
reboot the box and it should allow you to scan

in the service scan does it say
Kabel Deutschland
If it does then you need to change the cables.xml as well.

but to be honest you really need to change the image to a uk one.

Thanks scruff666, done all you said but still no channels!

Kabel Deutschland does not appear in service scan. After I made the changes I went back in to the Tuxbox Commander menu to check that the settings had saved only to find that the Var option was no longer there, any ideas ???

In the Tuxbox Commander menu, the list on the right goes from tvguide.conf to zapto.timer.
The channel scan menu settings are:

scan for services: tv&radio
bouquet: create new
cable provider: cableUK sym6952
fast scan: off
manual scan: off
frequency: 66675000
symbol rate:6952
fec: 3/4
polarization: H

Transponders: 188
Ber: 678 (and rising)
SNR: fluctuating between 1000 and 6000 plus
SIG: 674 (and rising)

After a mess around with the menus I found that pressing Blue Button > Sportster Setup Menu > Change Scanning Details allowed me to change the values.
