Problem burning MP3 cd-r using Maxell

Hi! I've been using Maxell cd-rs to make audio cds (uisng Nero 6) which has gone fine but when I try to make MP3 cds the program always freezes so the cd-r is unusable after that - I have to reset my computer as Nero won't close. Has anybody got any ideas what is happening or has had this happen to them? I don't know whether I should burn at a slower speed (I've been trying 48x) or whether I just have a dud batch of cd-rs?
