Very basic question,
but how do I add programs to my Start|Programs list in XP ?

I take it you mean the startup menu in the all programs menu...

A) Browse to the folder that contains the file you want to autostart up then click, hold and drag the program you want into the startmenu which will open up then drag it into all programs - then into the startup folder

or

B) Browse to the folder as before - highlight the file you want to autostart, from the edit menu select - copy to folder and point it towards C:\Documents and Settings\<yourusernamehere>\startmenu\programs\startup
