Hello,
I'm new to using Windows for this jazz, but I tried to find this topic on the forums, but couldn't. Please redirect me to the right page if I was wrong.
I'm a speaker and my goal is to have a DVD with short snippets from multiple DVDs on to one DVD to use when speaking. I'm able to convert my DVD's to VOB files, but I just need to be able to cut them up, and save the smaller clip for burning. No merging is required; simple cutting only.
Ideally then, I'd like to take these small VOB files and burn them onto DVD, where each VOB file is a chapter. Is this easy to do? How would I go about doing this? It would be preferable to do all of this without converting the VOB to another format.

select the VOB files you want on the disk and put them into a folder then burn them with nero

You will need to create new IFo files etc.. Do this with TMPGEnc DVD Author.

I find myself in a similar situation. Would like to be able to take VOB files and play with them -- edit them and so on. Ideally would like to convert them into raw MPEG2 or DV files to begin with. I looked at TMPGEnc and TMPGEnc and neither lists VOB files as starting material. What am I missing here? It seems like most of the tools out there are oriented toward duplicating DVDs or producing DVDs, VCDs, etc from raw MPEG input. How does one go about reversing the apparent natural order of things? I can get the VOBs out of the DVDs easily eough with several different tools. But what then if I'm not just after a simple duplication?

Is your end result when using this program going to be a a VOB file or does TMPGEnc convert it to a different type of file? I am on my way to downloading this because I would like to be able to do the same as the other two people have indicated they would like to do as well.

The end result will be VOB(s), BUP(s) IFO, etc just like a normal DVD and it will be put into a VIDEO_TS Folder for you.

I don't know if I did this wrong or not but using TMPGEnc DVD Author I didn't get any sound when it was all said and done. Do I need to extract the sound out from some other source? I always thought that the sound was part of the VOB file its self is that correct ?

The sound is part of the original VOB. You will need to ascertain whether the VOB had sound and if so, it should also have sound when combined.
