I have the ps2 slim modded & it has been doing great until recently i dropped the whole thing and it just cant seem to read dvds anymore. It only reads Cds. Was wondering whether anyone knows what could be the problem? Is it the laser? Could this be repair by trying to align back the laser pot or something? I have been searching for online help but only could find the guide for the older ps2 model. Thanks all

its probably the laser allignment since dropping it would do that.if you have money go to a nearby service shop that repairs ps2's.

would agree with above, lase alignment can easily get off when you drop it.

Thanks for the info guys. I finally give up and took the ps2 to the shop. It costs me, if i were to convert be like USD40. They changed the laser and BIOS...???? Anyway its working fine now. Just a word of advice; dont ever drop your ps2 slim. Its so fragile....

$40 US for a laser and install is one heck of a good deal. The laser alone will cost you that much at most shops let alone another $35 for them to install it.
BIGnewb, no. Not rich at all. I just work hard and save up for the things i want. You think all that is great you should see them all running through my 56" DLP TV :)

right now the 7600GT plays every game i have, Even Rainbow Six Vegas which has about the highest minimum requirements i have seen. Plus i am not a hard core PC gamer so it is not a big deal. No Wii for me, none of the games interest me.
The TV was just one of those things. I went looking for a new one and never expected to buy anything like that one. But since they had a deal where it was interest free for 3 years i could not pass it up. That means if you pay $130 a month, you pay it off in about a year 1/2 with no interest charges.

HI guys!
i also have ps2 slim with SM 3.6 but my problem is that my ps2 can read original games, backup games and backup movies but when trying to play an original DvD movie the disc starts spinnig and stopping alternally and i can shut the ps2!i have to disconect the power cord!i think this is due to a fall from the ps2!Could it be the same laser problem as anang82?
Thanks and keep up the good work!

my suggestion is to not play movies in it. It is really not good for the PS2. Get a cheap stand alone DVD player. My movies use to play but a lot of them would skip or have problems. I thought i had bad copies but they play fine on a regular DVD player.

I guess when ur ps2 can read all sorts of format except the original disc movie, shouldn't be the laser prob. Mine was unable to read all sorts of disc except cd. It's probably not as efficient already after its modded. Best is use a dvd player.

i think the Blu-ray is a good sign in the ps3.i dont think it will turn out like the ps2 with the disc read errors.well ps2's have to be treated good for them to survive for a couple of years.
