Hi,
I'm a newbie here. I've been having a problem with backing up some stuff. This last disc gave me this:
Data error (cyclic redundancy check)
I've used both DVD Decrypter and DVDFab and have the disc ripped to my hd and compressed, I just can't burn it.
Any help would be nice. thanks

Cyclic redundancy errors are usually encryption errors. First, make sure that DVDFab is current. I believe the latest version is 3.0.7.0. DVD Decrypter works very well with RipIt4Me. You can find that here: http://www.ripit4me.org/ It's also free.
This seems to be the easiest and has the most success lately with newer encryptions. You'll also need DVD Shrink 3.2 (which you can find under the download section here) and Nero 6.
Lastly, if these don't work, make sure the disc is clean and free from scratches (or maybe first!).
Hope any of these gives success.

The latest version of DVDFab is 3.0.8.0

Here's some more info on CRC errors if you need it, this assumes you're ripping from a DVD.

DVD Shrink encountered an error and cannot continue.
failed to read file x:\ data error cyclic redundancy Data error

Possible causes:

The disk is either badly scratched, diry/smudged in areas where info can't be read correctly, a bad press (digitally faulty), or copy protection shrink (or decrypter) can't handle because of its discontinued support/advancement.

-If the disk looks dirty/smudged, clean it, then try again.

-If it's copy protection that's causing shrink to spit out the error... then try any one of these options:

1) DVDfab decrypter, it's a very good and supported free whole movie ripper/decrypter. Use it to rip the video files to your HDD, open the files ripped using shrink and proceed as you normally would.

DVDFab

2) Ripit4me, it takes the ripping/transcoding/and burning process and makes it a one click task. You'll need DVD Shrink, DVD Decrypter, and FixVTS to make it all work. MAKE SURE IT'S UPDATED.

Ripit4me
http://www.ripit4me.org/

3) Download and install the trial version of AnyDVD ($$$). Once installed, run DVD dhrink as you normally would to produce a backup, AnyDVD runs in the backround to crack the copy protection on the disk.

-If the disk is clean and any of the above methods fail, you could have a possible bad press, if so then you'll need to exchange it for another and try it again.

You more than likely can't burn it because the video files are not fully stripped of the copy protection, try re-ripping using the latest version of DVDFab, open the files using shrink and proceed as usual with the backup process.
