I've been nosing around for the past few days and read more than a few very informative threads.

General concensus seems to be that Magic Keys 2 is the most reliable utility available.

However, I have a newer version that has the little metal clip next to the hinge. This seems to be a recurring problem with many late models.

I'm inclined to try out the Twist Tool, as it seems to be the most flexible.

I would like to buy Magic Keys 2 though, because the comments are much more positive.

I'm just wondering what the safer bet would be with a SCPH-77001...

On another note, how do these things work? Is the sensor near the hinge just there to verify that a disc is inserted before starting the laser?

For the v15, the current diagram that's been shown and the youtube videos are all wrong. Your right. The metal clip is in place in these newer versions and in fact are blocking the magic switch. Wrong. The metal clips in the v15 aren't blocking the switch. It's more of a deceiver. The actual switch is located between the two metal hinges at the top left corner of the silver slim PS2 when looking down upon it vertically when you lay it out on a flat surface.

|| represents the hinges
instead of ||_||<== here, where you find instructions and picture references to where the switch is located on the right side

||<== Hinges _ <== Space between the hinges

It's actually ||==>here<==|| in between the two hinges.

I had the same problem. I have the newer slim PS2 with the hing. I went and opened my PS2 and removed the hing. I was now able to use the tool so now the sensor thinks the cover is closed.
