since i have been messing around with my box connecting to pc and trying to record i have lost some channels i have since done a full rescan to no avail though, would the next step be to reflash another image to the box bearing in mind this will be a first for me any feedback appreciated cheers Col.

Look in your Zappit folder and delete MYSERVICES.XML if you find it, reload channels or reboot to see if that fixes it.
