I posted this in general discussion first but realized that there was specifically hardware related section so I posted here, hoping get more advice.

I have unusual problem. I had problem with my v4 PS2 and based on google and forum searches all symptoms that I was experiencing (no video/audio, tray wont eject, cd spindle wouldn't spin, no blue light, laser wont move, lens wouldn't light up with red beam) led to fact that my BA chip (BA5815FM) burned out along with fuse next to it, so after i checked with multimeter they were in fact dead both fuse and BA chip and i ordered replacement parts from online store and just received it.

I followed guide on some site I googled on how to remove and install BA chip and after intense testing for bridges and shorts everything tested good. So I decided to check and power up my PS2.

First thing I noticed the red, green, and blue lights started to work fine like they should; the tray ejects fine like it should; cd spindle would spin fine but only for 1 second and stop; the lens would light up fine with red beam when I reset or close tray, but my laser still wouldn't move at all along the rails. And most importantly I was still getting blank screen, but this time it was different - when I power on ps2 the screen would flicker which would usually be followed by sony cloud but it wasn't; before BA replacement my TV screen would be completely dead black as if ps2 was not sending out video signal at all.

So I checked connections again like hundred times - all checks fine, no bridges, all pins seem to be touching motherboard. Also all fuses on motherboard check out OK, including the one next to BA chip.

So I read on some other forum somebody had similar problem (but they had video signal working) and they replaced BA5815FM but still had problem like me, so few people confirmed that that person will also have to change BA6664FM chip that is on the in the other corner of the motherboard.

What do you think will replacing BA6664FM fix my PS2 video and laser movement problem, or are my symptoms telling you that something else is wrong?

Also what bothers me is that when I replaced BA5815FM it fixed only my lights (red, green, blue), my tray opening and closing, my lens glowing red when power up ps2; but it didnt fix my video/audio and laser movement. What pins on BA5815FM are responsible for video and laser movement (traverse gear?) or is it all in BA6664FM chips functions?

Sorry I wrote a lot, I started writing and couldn't stop until I explained everything I could.

My hope is somebody can help me on this. Thanks in advance.

Oh man, I wish I had some better advice for you. That's a lot of work to have invested and still not have a working machine. I typically just opt to get a new board if it doesn't boot right off the bat.

I have a v9 system that boots, but the drive does not work, regardless of a good laser installed or not. From my reading, that means the chip by the network adapter port is bad (the chip you do the Romeo mod on). I don't remember the exact chip numbers, but I'm guessing this is the chip you've replaced so far?

My thought is that you will need to replace the other chip, as your system has less functionality than mine with a single bad chip.

The other chip you're referring to near the BIOS, correct? I'm not sure what this chip controls, nor how to diagnose it. I would love to see a guide on how to do this, since it means I could probably repair quite a few more PS2's that come my way.

Hope some of that helps!
