Do I need firmware if I Hotswap?

If i use the hotswap method and create a backup of my Need For Speed Carbon onto a DVD+R DL, do i still need to flash or install a firmware into my 360 in order for me to be able to play the backup on my 360 with no problems?

yeah, you need to flash the firmware or mod the 360 in some way to play any burned games
