Maybe it is me as I am fairly new to this but thanks to the folks here I now have some education. After a buring a few of items onto these discs I noticed it was really taking forever.

These were just purchased at a retail shop on a 25PK spindle.

Here is the info I get from one of the suggested programs:

*******************
Device Information:
Current Profile: DVD-R

Disc Information:
Status: Empty
Erasable: No
Free Sectors: 2,298,496
Free Space: 4,707,319,808 bytes
Free Time: 510:48:46 (MM:SS:FF)
Maximum Write Rate: 2,770 KB/s (2x)

Pre-recorded Information:
Manufacturer ID: CMC MAG. AF1

Physical Format Information:
Book Type: DVD-R
Part Version: 5
Disc Size: 120mm
Maximum Read Rate: Not Specified
Number of Layers: 1

******************

Is it me or is this really 2x media ?

Also what is the best place to learn about reading the Manufacturer ID ?

Thx
Junky

ADVDInfo will tell you about the manufacturer. Also, what program are you burning with.

What burner are you using?
I just got a 50 pack for real cheap...but they haven't been shipped yet.

Same results with Decryptor and Nero 6.

The media looks and feels nice purple-ish color on bottom. Playback seems fine too.

I just ordered some Ritek printables, hoping they will do the trick. Are those the ones you recommend ?

Thanks again!

I have Memorex 4x at the moment - NEVER AGAIN! Every disc now produces read errors before the end of the movie which results in freezing. Up til then the read is perfect. Very frustrating and the worse discs I've ever bought.

Yes but even Ritek are not 100% - the odd short freeze does occur.

I've purchased memorex before and they seem to work fine burned on a sony dru 500ax and a pioneer 105, although they were only 2x. burned about a hundred plus or so memorex dvd+Rw and dvd-r

Not sure how the 4x will handle though, if it even writes 4x...

And I have never had freezing or playback problems on disc edges with any media I've tried, ritek included...Lucky I guess. (300+ discs and counting)
