I have a Sony DRU-500AX with 2.0f Firmware.

I am able to burn Sony 4x DVD+R at 4x
I am able to burn PLATINUM 4x DVD+R at 4x

I am NOT ABLE TO burn PRINCO 4x DVD-R at 4x
Only able to burn these disks at 2x.

According to Nero and DVDDecrypter, the PRINCOs can be burnt at 4x and when i test burn, they are done by the 15th minute but when i try to actual burn, DVDDecrypter indicates in the log that it had to slow down to 2x because it cant burn at 4x. Why can the test work at 4x but the actual only at 2x.

Where is the problem there? Hardware, Software, Firmwar, Media?

Why is the problem only with the -R´s?

Can anyone recommend other -R 4x that are available? I am from spain and would like to try other brands as to verify if it is a media problem or not. What brands are better and where can i get them in Madrid (although a solution to the problem would be better as i have so many 4xPRINCOs alrady)

Ritek -R are very good - Traxdata ones! -R is more compatible with standalones. For infor, visit http://www.dvd-backup.tk and click on DVD info, there is a difference comparison there!

Y'all really need to read the posts on this forum, instead of asking the same old questions...

Sony burners do not burn cheap media.
Princo media is cheap media.

Got it? Good.

Return the Sony for a pioneer if you want to use cheap media. Get a 105 if you can. Avoid the A06 as it is plagued with problems like the sony multiformat.

it sounds like you are blaming more the media than Sony as having the problem. Shouldn't Sony just release a firmware that makes the drive more compatible with PRINCO specifically as this is where most of the complaints with sony are (as you have said shown in previous posts)

I wish i colud buy a 105 but unfortunately i am not that rich. I have my DRU-500AX on a 12 month installment plan just to be able to afford one. I hope you understand that i hope the manufacturers (not the end users) should be the one to find a solution (compromise)

Thanks for your input anyway... appreciate it. If someone is charitable enough to offer me a free DVD drive, i will surely ask for the Pioneer

I think its more that princo should make their media work better, rather than sony do anything.
