i stumbled across this on the web

Quote:
Here is a step by step process of the Downgrading Idea: First you need to go to your local electronics store and purchase a soldering iron, a flash reader/writer, and a solder. Then you need to go to websites like altepsp, pspupdates, or psp-hacks and download a dumped copy of the firmware version that you want. After gathering all the supplies, you must first take apart your PSP and open it up to find the physical flash0. Use the solder to essentially melt off the firmware chip. You must then, attach the firmware chip to the flash reader/writer. After completing all of that you need to locate your copy of the dumped 1.0 or 1.5 firmware (The dump obviously MUST have all the files, and MUST be unencrpyted (This means no 1.5 eboot updates). Once you finish all of this you need to reattach the firmware chip to your PSP with a solder and the soldering iron. Now, you need to hope for the best, and pray that this works. Hopefully after doing this your PSP should boot any firmware you have soldered on there.

PLEASE NOTE THIS HAS NOT BEEN TESTED, BUT "TALLLITTLEELF" KNOWS ALOT ABOUT COMPUTERS.
BASED ON WHAT HE KNOWS AND HAS DONE, THIS SHOULD WORK IN THEORY, BUT IT'S A WORKING PROJECT.

So, please don't try this at home, because it's just an idea! As soon as "TallLittleElf" is able to try this experiment on his own I will write another article on his downgrade idea. So if you currently have a version 1.51, 1.52, 2.0, 2.01, or 2.5 PSP cross your fingers because if this idea works you will be able to run homebrew on your PSP and execute amazing programs and applications. I know one thing homebrew completes my PSP. I'm able to not only play old games that I love on the go, but there are other programs out there like web browsers and PDA programs, it makes your PSP feel like a mini portable computer.

· Ok, of late I've been trying to up my hits on my site by getting new affiliates, I currently have gained RatedO, Haven4gamers and PSP-vault all as affiliates and I'm still waiting for replies back from the other emails I sent to various web sites. If you would like to become an affiliate just email me, I will probably accept anyone. Thank you.

· This is my downgrade idea, which allows a last ditch attempt downgrade from any firmware. It is fairly simple, although somewhat of a dangerous method. It either takes guts or some skill(or a bit of both). I'll give you a step by step process, here it is:

You will need the following:

1.Soldering Iron(typically found at electronic stores)
2.A flash reader/writer.
3.A dumped copy of the firmware you want.
4.And some solder.

Here are the instructions:

1. Open up your PSP and find the physical flash0.
2. Use the soldering to essentially melt off the firmware chip.
3. Attach the firmware chip to the flash reader/writer.
4. Copy a dumped copy of 1.0 or 1.5 firmware(1.0 is preferable). The dump obviously has to have all the files, and MUST be unencrpyted(no 1.5 eboot updates or anything).
5. Reattach the firmware chip to the PSP with some solder and the soldering iron.
And now hopefully your PSP should boot whatever firmware you have put on there.

PLEASE NOTE THIS HAS NOT BEEN TESTED, BUT I KNOW ALOT ABOUT COMPUTERS. AND BASED ON WHAT I KNOW AND HAVE DONE, THIS SHOULD WORK.

Also note that if you are to post anything about this, credit a person named "TallLittleElf". Thank you.

sounds potchy and expensive to me :S and has anyone got a flash reader ? lol

uhhmm...i would never take a soldering iron to the internals of my PSP unless it was completely bricked and there was no hope lol

and it says "melting the firmware chip"...that sounds like a recipe for disaster

a flash reader/writer? anything that can write firmware to a PSP is sure to be expensive

interesting idea though

Currently on my 7th PS3 and 4th Xbox, gotta love technology..

seems like a nice concept, but it's not like it'd be that simple :-)

besides, screw that, i'll wait for DA/C+D/Noobz releases.
