Problems playing mp4 on psp 'Corrupted Data' message

I am quite new to PSP so hope someone can help.
I am trying to simply copy a collection of pre-encoded MPEG4 movies to my PSP, I have 3 DVD's worth of movies so I can't see how all of them are corrupted, actually I know they are not because my brother has a PSP and these films are fine on his.
Basically this is what I do:
1. Connect PSP to PC
2. Load disc with MPEG4 films on, I play them first to make sure they work, they are fine on PC.
3. Copy both MPEG4 and thm files into the folder called '100MNV01' within folder called 'mp_root'.
4. Go to movies section on PSP to load up transfered film, 'Corrupted Data' appears.
I have gone through this process with about 10 MPEG4 files, they all do the same thing. I have also used ImTOO DVD to PSP software copying a DVD to MPEG4 just in case there is a problem with the collection that I have, but this latest conversion is also throwing up this error. I have recently just upgraded my PSP to version 3.11 but I am still getting these error messages, the MPEG4 files play fine on the PC.
I would appreciate any help, next port of call will be Sony.

The video's are named, e.g. M4V10003.MP4 all others are similar, all start M4V.....

yea thats right, it should work
what i would do is download PSP VIDEO 9
after installation, click one click transcode and look for the original .MP4 you want to watch (i also recommend you put them on your PC somewhere instead of DVD) after conversion etc, try putting it in the same folders etc and give it a go

I have tried to encode my video files, but the PSP Video 9 software does not seem to recognise the mpeg4 format.
I have pre-encoded my DVD titles using ImTOO DVD to PSP Converter, thinking that I would not have a problem and that the PSP would accept this format.
Are you suggesting ripping a DVD to say AVI format then using PSP Video 9 to re-encode???

Thanks for the advice....
I am from the UK and purchased this from the US when I was out there last, only last December, I wonder if there are any differences between US and UK versions.
I have sent this same query to http://www.us.playstation.com/PSP but they have not yet got back to me as of yet.

Could the directory structure on the memory card be different between US and UK versions??
Should I putting the video files in a different folder?

I have answered my own question here, yes I re-formatted the memory card, i now have a different folder structure to match that which the Sony website says I should expect to see, I then copied the movie files into the VIDEO folder, but still message is saying Corrupted Data.
I think I will try one last thing, I will try a short video clip, maybe turn a DVD into say an AVI format then use Sony Media Manager to convert it for me.
If this does not work, I will probably sell it for spares!!!!!

Since my last communication I have got a bit further.
I have managed to encoded a small portion of the film, which does transfer and play ok on the PSP, I then try the full film... but again 'Corrupted Data' message is displayed.
I have just recently tried the transfer on another computer, same happens on on this computer the following Quick Time error message is displayed:
No 'moov atom could be found
It would seem that the transfer is somehow corrupting the movie file, but how or why is the mystery, any help would be much appreciated.
