I am having problems getting DVD-R's to burn on my PC. I am using 4X Piodata DVD-R's and the software I have tried is Shrink, Nero Express, Ulead Movie Factory, DVD X Copy Gold & Cheetah Burn. I am having difficulty burning data disks w/ Nero Express & Cheetah Burn (it is always failing at the very end either w/ verifying the data or finalizing the disk). When I try to read the disks, the program (windows explorer or media player) w/ become very unstable (not respond). When trying to do a 1:1 copy w/ DVD X Copy Xpress, for Step 2 the Start button will not turn green once I insert blank media. When I use Shrink and then Nero Express to burn, I get an error for the verification process at the very end. The supplied Ulead software is extremely unstable and does not seem to work for anything. I am mainly interested in data DVD's and 1:1 copy for DVD's.

System:
Windows XP Home Edition
AMD Athlon XP 2000+ CPU
512MB Crucial DDR PC2700
Pioneer A06 Dual (+/-) Drive
GeForce4 AGP4X 64MB DDR
IBM 60GB 7200RPM HD

I've also tried w/ Beyond Micro 4X DVD-R's w/ same problems. I have tried to burn w/ only 4.2GB of data b/c I thought that 4.3GB was too close and it was causing problems w/ finalizing, but that didn't change anything. I am just trying to find some stable software for burning data disks. I probably need to get Nero 6, b/c I am having many problems w/ all of the other programs. Shrink is the only program that I can get to work, but I wish that I could use that to burn DVD's as well.

Do you think that the media is causing all of the problems rather than the software? It's actually PIODATA and I have also tried the Beyond Micro Data, does anyone know a good generic 4X DVD-R that works good? Also is there a program around to copy a copy of a DVD?

True! Ritek DVD-R is the best one to go for. traxdata or clone disc would be a good choice.

i would not go generic. Fugifilm works well, i have an old dvd set-top player and it works plus it is cheap for namebrand, 74.99 american for 50 disks

Why would you not go Generic?? Traxdata is one of the most reliable discs available

Oriphus (or anyone else that has used many programs and would like to make a suggestion), what programs do you regularly use for burning data DVD's and for burning DVD movies once they are ripped? I may end up just burning data disks on CD-R's to save frustration and DVD-R's.

sorry i have never heard of traxdata but i have had bad experiences in the past w/ burning coasters on generics, waisting time and money. Gimme a link for traxdata and i'll look into it. But i have noticed that u live over by the uk and i live in america, i buy mostly all of my dvds from Newegg.com.

also use Nero for on-the-fly data copying as long as it is not encoded. But for example ps2 games would be encoded in that case use dvd-decrypter in .iso mode, read to your HDD then write onto a disk.

to write video just use Nero in dvd- other formats - video

O yah oriphus or anyone from around the uk have any of you guys heard of a band called the streets i hear they are popular.
