Trouble with background downloading

I just got a 360 and am having trouble downloading demos in the background while playing a game. My xbox had upgraded to the latest firmeware but whenever i start downloading some demos and then start up gears of war it cancels or stops my demo download. Im not trying to play online while its downloading im just trying to play a single player game. Anyone know how i can stop this from happening?

some games it does that, gears does the same with me, and i think need for speed carbon did it with me once as well, just dont try and download and play gears

So i can't play while downloading stuff? Is it only the games that have online multiplayer or all games?
