Easy vcd- file split

This is probably a really stupid question to ask but i wanted to be sure. I decided i wanted to copy one of my dvds so, i used easy vcd. when easy vcd started up i had to pick whether to put the output file on one big file or on a 80 minute cd-r.
Because the dvd is 92 minutes long should i put it so that it converts into one big file file split or on the 80 min cd-r even though the dvd is too big?

I think the answer depends on how confident you are that you can split the film yourself afterwards.
A VCD holds 78-79 minutes so this particular film must be split.
If it was me, I would convert the film as one big file and then use tempgenc (mpeg tools) to split into two files. This way I could choose exactly where the film was split and even leave a few seconds overlap so that the split was not too obtrusive.
If you are not comfortable doing this , then you may need to let easy VCD do it automatically.

I dont use VCD at all, but cant yo put it on a 99min CD?

okay, thanks i'l probably let easy VCD just do it for me, as im not really used to it yet. Once i get mre used to it i probably will split it myself in tmpgnc.
oh and I can't put it on a 99min one as my burner won't let me do that and i havn't got any of those larger cd-rs anyway.

Ah right. Remember your drive may let you if you select Overburn in the Nero menu! Also, 99min CD's are similar price to 80Min

Oh right. thanks for the advice i'l definately try that then. I didn't think Nero would let me overburn and if it does that would be a great help, seen as one of my mpegs is only 6 seconds over. so thanks!

Later versions of Nero support overburn , it'll be down to whether your CD-RW does too.

ok here is what you need to backup a DVD that is larger than 74 or 80 mins onto one CDR in EASY VCD

under encoding type where it says VCD in that menu select XVCD then select that you want to use one CDR 80 or 74 mins depending on what you're using .. and what that does is it compresses the audio and video just enough that a DVD player can still read the VCD but it's just compressed to the xvcd format...
the Easy VCD website has all the info you need right there for ya!

Better still! Use MainConcepts mpeg encoder to encode to VCD or SVCD, then burn with Nero. If the DVD is 92 mins long, the output file should fit onto one 80 min CD.

I used a program calle dMPEG SPlitter before, but its just mainly for backing up - it wont play once split until it has be joined again. this should be in the VCD/SVCD forum, not here.

It is an interesting post for the DVD-toDVD section, indeed.
Easy VCD is an excellent program...it certainly doesn't get any easier (I wish this had been around when I started making VCDs way back when!).
If I remember correctly, Easy VCD will split the files for you if you specify that it should. Splitting with TMPGEnc's tools section after authoring is an option if you do a basic VCD title-set, but could screw things up if you made a more advanced VCD (with chapters and menues).
