Need camcorder to record indoor sports...with a twist

I coach high school volleyball and I am looking to record their practices/games so that I can later download them to my computer and review them.

What I need is a camcorder, but one thing I want to do is attach it to the top of the basketball backboard, point it down towards the court, and record from that view point. I also want to be able to take it down and record from other spots using a tripod.

My question is, are there decent camcorder packages that use maybe an external lens? I see samsung has a SC-X201 that I would mount the camera lens to the backboard with the wire running down and just attach the camcorder to the wire to be able to record from that POV. But every review says that the recording quality is subpar.

If I buy a camcorder, do they make external lenes so that I can attach to the camcorder or are their other packages out there that come with something I am looking for?

This being a high school sport, mu budget is limited. If something looked really good, I might be able to get up to about $600. This is coming out of my own wallet, so I was hoping for less.
