I'm using Win XP and Nero 5.5 to burn CDRs and CDRWs, everything was working fine but recently bought some new faster CDRWs (x10 speed).

My CD burner is a TEAC CD-W512EB

When trying to burn to the CDRWs using Nero, initially the error was :-

21:01:25 #16 mmc -1106 File Writer.cpp, Line 308
Power calibration error

21:01:25 #19 mmc -1046 File WriterStatus.cpp, Line 180
This is not a CD-Recordable

I can post full log if necessary, ASPI layer at that point was Ver=4.01 (984).

My attempts to fix were as follows :-
- Tried another blank CDRW (same make etc) TDK CD-RW700 high speed.
- I upgraded Nero from 5.5.5 to latest 5.5.9 ? - then got a slightly different error :-

11:37:52 #19 MMC -1106 File Writer.cpp, Line 330
Power calibration error

11:37:52 #22 MMC -1046 File WriterStatus.cpp, Line 184
Illegal medium

11:37:52 #23 TRANSFER -18 File WriterStatus.cpp, Line 184
Could not perform EndTrack

11:37:52 #24 CDR -201 File WriterStatus.cpp, Line 187
Invalid writestate

again see end for full log of 2nd error.

- Having read read the FAQ etc, I decided to check my ASPI files, the recommended checking software said they were out of date, so I downloaded Aspi 4.71 from Adaptec and ran the KILLASPI.BAT first, then the install.bat XP32.

Bit I'm still getting the same problem burning CDRWs using Nero.

I've also checked the DMA settings for Primary or Secondary Contoller Properties > Advanced Settings
and is "DMA if available" .

Any ideas would be much apprieciated.

Also tried InCD which has worked before for slower CDRWs but now gives InCD Error Code of [0051-0003-0073-0003] Disc Error Occured. Whatever this means. Also upgraded InCD to latest version.

I seem to be getting the exact same error
code 0051 0003 0073 0003

Wondering if you were able to work that out?

thanks,

Had a similar problem both with Nero & InCD using Packard Bell CD-W Rewriteable 1X-10X and tried all ways to resolve the 'power calibration error' (upgrading to latest release etc. etc.). I have a BenQ CRW8432IA - have resolved problem by purchasing PNY Technologies CD-RW Rewriteable media 1x-4X which work ok every time for Nero & InCD, so suggest you try another media manufacturer, my drive is 8x4x32 and my understanding is that the 4x relates to the writing speed i.e. 600kb/s so I would suggest you buy media that is up to thie speed of your drive in write mode and NOT anything greater!

Hope this helps

Yes I did solve the problem, all that was needed was to upgrade my TEAC CD Writer to the latest version of their firmware, available from there site.

I was a little worried about all the warnings on their site regarding only using on particular batches/versions of the TEAC CD-W512EB burner, but I went ahead and it immediately solved the problem.

Now burns at 10x on those CDRWs.
