There has been much discussion of the horrors of trying to burn with "cheap" media. Despite that, I have had good luck with the CompUSA DVD-R media, made by FMI. Through September 6, they are on sale for $7.99 for a 10 pack ($19.99-$12.00 "instant savings"). When I first got my Pioneer DVR-A06, I got some of these to experiment with. Though they are only 1x, they are good discs if speed is not a factor. I've been through three 10 packs with only 1 coaster (which might have been my fault).

Assuming that the discs are treated properly i.e. kept out of the sun, not stepped on, not dropped into a vat of hydrochloric acid or fed to the dog, etc., I'm not sure that the difference in the life expectancy of the various discs won?t amount to very much when compared to the overall life of the media. Many of the major manufacturers CLAIM 100 years. Now, if one brand only lasts 80 years (darn), I submit that: 1. Technology advances will have us using something else, and 2. You and I won't be around to complain to the manufacturer.
