I have a backup image of Red Faction 2. I have burned it to disc(2 discs) and all seemed to go well.

There apparently is no protection on Red Faction 2 either so I burned the cue files using Alcohol on Raw-Dao. All the correct files are on the discs and all seem to pass
inspection with cdmage etc.

When I try and launch the disc to install nothing happens. So I explored the disc and ran setup manually but it returned an 'invalid windows 32 exe' or something very similar.

I installed the game using 2 virtual drives with Daemon and it works just fine, so no corrupt files there me thinks. I surely must have made an error with the burning process but I can't think what it might be!

Ideas anyone??

1. Check again just to make sure there is no protection, most recent games have protection and it seems slightly out of place that a new game like RF2 wouldnt have protection (althout SOF2 didnt either which was kinda wierd)

2. What speed be you burning at? Try burning much slower?

3. When you got it working with DaemonTools, was there any protection emulation enabled?

There is no protection on the disc as far as I can tell.

I burned at x4 (that's my writers top speed!, it is pretty old) it's an LG CED 8083b.

There was no protection emulation enabled on Daemon.

When I insert the burned disc (in any drive) it's apparent they can't read it by the sounds they make, as though it is corrupt I suppose.

1)Some reported Red Faction II as ProtectCD
Some facts about ProtectCD cd protection
ProtectCD: This protection is physical errors & subcode channel based which can be either difficult or impossible to backup. The copy protection seems to be in the Q subcode channel but the P channel must be read & written as well, requiring a 2x8 byte read/write across the sectors ? DAO RAW + 16.
Settings to backup ProtectCD using CloneCD
===============================================
Read:
Max Speed
DAO RAW
data & audio subs
Fast Error Skip (click ?Settings?? & then ?Default?)
Intelligent Bad Sector Scanner (up to 1000 is OK)
Note that the error skipping may take some time! (hours in some cases!)
==============================================
Write (default):
Max Speed
DAO RAW
Close last Session
Buffer Underrun technology
Don?t repair subchannel data#
===============================================
Download a tool called Protection ID Scanner, open>scan>locate the protectcd.exe (should be Red Faction II game exe).
Protection ID Scanner 3.4
