I just picked up Swap Magic and a flip top for my version 1 PS2. I can load swap magic without too much trouble by orienting my PS2 vertically, but sitting flat it doesn't want to load swap magic. I've tried raising the laser platform with the white cog in the back, but there's a little bronze colored motor right next to it that keeps putting it right back where it was when I boot up. Can I disable that or somehow get the cog to stay where I move it to?

I have the same problem and I'm looking for a solution.

Did you find how to change the position of this white cog?

after so many revolutions the angle of the drive snaps back to its original position, and i use to have prob loading sm 3.6 on my older ps2 but it eventually worked. i use to have sm 3.0 read that one w/o a problem. switch between the cd and dvd one see if you can't get either of em to load, and how is loading of other things, if all else fails i would suggest adjusting the voltage on your cd/dvd drive

the white cog is not the laser its for the angle that the tray sits in, in order to adjust the laser you have to unsrew one of the screws on the bars that the laser glides turn if over and look for the two screws which represent the cd and dvd i would get a sharpie and mark the screw at the 12 o'clock position and any adjustment you make should be very very small.. left is decreasing the voltage and right is increasing it.

Thanks for your help.

But in my case the problem isn't those pots. My problem is that some DVDs take a long time to be recognized.

I've read that the cog can help but I can't adjust it.

as your player has more and more use its gets uncalibrated so the voltage is off and it takes longer to read disc my old one right now takes 3times as long to go to the ps2 screen as my slim one, i know i need to adjust the laser just being lazy, but trust me that is where the problem lies. you'll notice great difference
