Backing up Swap Magic 3.6 On PS2 HDD

Does anyone know how to edit the System file so you can put swap magic onto your ps2 hdd, i got it to boot up to the main screen, but everytime i try to load a game, it keeps saying invaild ps2 disk..and somenone told me you needed to edit the system file, so does anyone know how to?
