Web Severs-Need Some Advice!

I was looking into making my computer a server. I am in the process of creating my website, and was wondering if making my server was a need.

Also, I think my ISP is Quest or MSN (not sure which one is considered my ISP). Could I get some reference as to what ISP's can run servers without limitations/complications, or maybe a few?

Just perhaps a list of advantages/disadvantages, or a reference, between a home webs server or a free webhost site would be awesome!
