Hey everyone, I've been having some problems lately.
I ALWAYS use Maxell DVD-R's for my backups and they've always worked until now.
I'm begining to think that I got a bad pack of discs.
I normally get the 25 pack but this time I got the 50.
The first thing I noticed is that on the bottom instead of it being all purple like my other ones, each disc has a very thin silver lining around it. Perhaps this is normal?

Anyway, I've tried backing up Black, Transformers, Armored Core, Onimusha Dawn of Dreams, and Ar Tonelico: Melody of Elemia and each one says "Not a Ps2 Game" when I try to boot it with SwapMagic 3.6.

I thought it might have been my burner so I tried backing up Bully on my other more reliable burner. This time, however, it would give me a black screen like it was going to back the game up, but never load.

I've backed up my whole collection aside from a few games just fine so I don't know what I could be doing wrong now.

I've read somewhere that sometimes an entire pack of DVD-Rs can have a defect of some sort so I'm thinking that might be what is wrong.

Or perhaps it's a coincidence that all of those games are tough ones to back up?

Anyone have any ideas on what could be wrong?

Thanks a bunch. :)

Now that you have noticed a physical difference between packs, and the current batch is giving you grief.........return them, and get another pack. Look for the same or other anomalies, if ok keep your burn speeds low (4 X or 8X max). Good luck.

Cheers.

some companies use other companies to make their media. This causes some batches to be good and others to be bad. Since you have used a few i am not sure returning them will be an option. But you can use them for data or movies most of the time, they are not as picky a games.
Supermediastore.com is where i buy all mine, and for the same price most retail stores charge for cheap discs, i can get Verbatim and Taiyo Yuden which are the best quality around. I always use 8X DVD-R and burn them with IMGburn or DVD Decrypter at 4X

before you buy new media try a few different burning speeds.
Like on an 8X disc you could use 4X , 2.4X or ene set it to 1X
With a 16X DVD you could try 4X, 6X and 8X
