hi.....

i have mine flashed with xtreme v3.3 ( an old one i know )
but the chap i know that did it aint around anymore and want to get the latest update from online, will it be ok to do as i dont want to play live anyway, or do i have to update to 5.2c/d

yeah, it should pose no problems...the latest firmware thats out just now is the xtreme 5.2 and it comes in 4 flavours a b c and d

i might give it a go, as seen a few others use live wth old firmware and have not said about any problems...

is the new firmawar 5.2 abcd for all drives or just sammys, as two other mate are running hitachi drives

I still use xtreme 4.1 on my box with no problems on live.

The 5.2 firmware is for the sammy's . for the Hitachi's you want the garyopa 2.3. I think that is the latest version.

If you have a samsung, DO NOT APPLY THE UPDATE! This will give you a very nice Error 66 code and you will no longer be able to play your box until you update your firmware to 4.1 or newer.

Hitachi's do not have this problem I am told, only samsung's for some reason. Also games that come out after Febuary have the same patch on them on the game and force you to update to play said game. Do not do that either until you get your firmware updated first.

And yes, I've played crackdown on it.

BTW; I have xtreme 3.x(I think it's .2 but I'm honestly unsure.)

well the newer firmware for Samsung drives (Extreme5.2) give the ability to play back ups on DVD5 and also has stealth auto patching. You also do not have to booktype discs to DVD-Rom although if your burner can booktype there is no reason not to.
