I have been reading posts/forums/reviews on how to send mp3 ringtones to your Verizon V3m. Being a new owner of V3m from the crappy Verizon, I decided to not have the default ringtones. I have found many sites elaborating various steps to transfer a mp3 ringtone by using a flash card (mine is on the way).
Following are the steps I followed to transfer upto 5 mp3 files to my phone and set as ringtones:
1) Go to Verizon wireless website. In that, browse for your ringtone that you wish to add to your phone, by artist/song. Once you find the song that you want, visit this website Verizon's mp3 listing (If you notice when you preview the ringtone, the header of the page will have a reference to the URL that i just posted alongwith a <filename>.mp3). Once you find the file name, find from this URL from ztango and download the file on to your computer (Right click-> Save file/target As).
2) Open this site: Myxertones. Browse for the mp3 file that you just saved and type your verizon # (Make sure to check the "have a verizon phone? check this box:") and click Send.
Within minutes you will receive the mp3 as a Enhanced text message on your inbox. Save the attachment from the menu Options-> Save as sound.
Note:
1) You will be charged for this text message, which I believe is $0.25 per message or depending on the plan you selected.
2) If you decide not to use the mp3 files listed from Verizon, you can always use a audio trimmer utility and cut the portion of your favorite song and save it as a smaller mp3 file.
I figured instead of spending $2.99 for a ringtone, i can send upto 6 ringtones atleast to make my phone a little bit customized.
