I have many movies that I have bought in the past, and have found the ultimate way to store them. I guess you know that I must be talking about DivX.
I have found that a combination of software decryption tools is the start. I use the following for decryption:
DVD Shrink- Free (Available at http://www.dvdshrink.org
DVD Fab Decrypter-Free Version (Available at http://www.dvdidle.com
DVD Decrypter-Free (Available at http://www.mrbass.org/dvdrip
AnyDVD-Less than 50 dollars (Available at http://www.slysoft.com

Using the 4 software programs above have faced the challenge. If one did not work alone I have had to cross to another and then maybe change a setting here or there, but normally any of the 2 above will work. All are free, except the most powerful one and that is AnyDVD.

Now what I have done is after they are decrypted is that I convert them to DivX. DivX Pro is about 30 bucks http://www.divx.com and you need AC3 Filter which is free (Available at http://www.ac3filter.net
Now what I like to store my Movies on is a little networked Mediagate Media-Player-hard drive combination that I bought new off of Ebay (www.ewaggle.com)for $200 I bought it with a 320 gig HD. To use the MG-35 hard drive with DivX you have to change the DivX file extension to AVI.
Total investment to do this is about $300 for everything. (Software and Hardware)
This is easily done. I can easily transport this to anywhere I desire, with about 350 movies on it. It plugs into any television or computer, via numerous outputs. No DVDs to lug around or get scratched. Car, boat, whatever it is there. All you need is a television or computer. There are numerous portable media players/Hard drive combinations available, and when I thought about the price, I thought about the first DVD player, and VCR's that I had purchased.
Just an idea that works great for me.
