4GB Mem Stick randomness

My PSP is a blk UK model running 3.01

I've got a 4gb mem stick of ebay, looks genuine enough but wen i look in the mem car information it comes back with Magicgate TM: Unknown.

I wouldnt have even looked at this am i not having trouble getting stuff on. no homebrew just movies and music, the first couple of files are fine but after that it throws its dummys out of the pram and either declares the files corrupted or unsupported.

any ideas at all??

Fake stick? heard if it shows the magicgate: unknown its fake or something, correct me if I'm wrong.
