Sent my v.14 box away to have crystal chip 2.0 installed,If I understand correctly I need to load a "hacked" version of firmware before I can play my "Back-up" games.Is this true? and if so where can I get the firmware I need?...

Yes, that is true. Most places do not sell them pre-flashed.
That is how they can legally sell them. Because with the stock firmware it will not play back up games.

you will have to do the research to figure out which one you need.

Usually flashing a chip is simple. You download the bios and unzip the file. You will get a bin & cue file. You burn the cue file to a CD. then play it in your PS2.
