Hey man from what I see you seem to know ur 5hit about the psp. Was just wondering if there is a way to compress PSX games to play on the psp or if they have to be left alone. Thanks.

well I assume if you get rid of the deadspace on the iso before you turn it into an eboot that whould reduce the size.

my bad.

some eboot converters ask u for a compression level, from 1-9, so i guess yes u can compress.

Well what I am wondering is if you can compress the games already ripped or if it has to be made from an untouched iso of the game disc.

I found this dont know if it means anything....

According to this artical http://blogs.guardian.co.uk/games/archiv...ful_as_ps2.html

the psp processor actually runs slightly faster than the ps2 processor as the psp runs at upto 333 and the ps2 only runs at 300. How ever the way the processor work makes the psp more powerful for only some application basis and not others.

PS2 games can be run on the psp by using the location free play (from version 3 firmware) and porting the images over the PSX (this is a enhancement on the ps2 only ever released in Japan from what i belive). This shows that it is possible to play the games however the psp does not support the formats on it's own, it has the use the location free player (which will set you back somewhere in the region of $300).

Based on this design, It could be feasible that ps2 games could be played on the psp if someone dedicates enough time to work out conversion methods or emulation, how ever do not expect excellent performance.

The main reason for a lack of performance over the ps2 is as follows based on spec comparison

PSP PS2
333mhz processor 300mhz processor
1 instruction per clock cycle more than 1 instruction per clock cycle
1 maths processor 2 maths processors
480x272 resolution 640x480 resolution

So based on these specs even though the psp can run at a higher processing power, it can only a limited amount per clock cycle, where as the ps2 can do more. Even though there is only 1 maths processor on the psp it only has to produce 2.3x less data than the ps2. As a result games can run but with a drop in performance.

Maybe someone will spend time working on something maybe by looking at current existing PS2 Emulators and seeing if porting it accross may work, not sure myself, but hopefully someone may come up with something.

yes you can and i'm using eboot compressions that run about half the size of the original ones. just use POPSTATION GUI but the thing about compressions is that some of the sounds are have been deleted(digimon 2,metal gear, eternal wings, megaman x4/x5) and there are games that freezes when you compress them(megaman x4,sigma stage).
