hi

i'm converting AVI files into MPEG (to put on vcd naturally)

we all know about the old "VBR audio stream detected" error msg in virtual dub. and usually saving an uncompressed wave then using TMPGEnc will USUALLY fix this problem. but i have run into a couple of AVI files that need to be encoded at obsucre bit rates (most reacent one was 141.6) and this ofcourse is quite a distance away from TMPGEnc options of 128 or 160. I tried using both thease (being closest to the desired bitrate) and both came out way to far out of sinc.

anyway my question is how do u guys & gals get arround this freaquently occuring promblem.

do u use a difrent program that allows u to input your own bit rates?

is there some way to fix it using TMPGEnc??

i don't know

help is greatly appreciated.

NanDub should handle VBR audio better than VirtualDub, you might want to give it a shot.

Extract the audio with NanDub instead of VirtualDub, it should maintain the sync better. Then you can frameserve (in case you want to, like instance if you're adding permanent subs) the video from VirtualDub to TMPGEnc and use the audio which you extracted with NanDub as an audio source (or simply use the AVI as an video source if you don't need frameserving).
