which would be better to have as a gaming system and multimedia purposes~ an xbox 360 or hp dv2000 laptop with intel gma 256mb graphics

i guess the price of the 2 are the same....
i like computers so i would have to go with the laptop....but the 360 is a very nice system so i dont really know.

i guess the 360 would be better for games but the laptop better for multimedia...

i also like computers, however, if this is solely for gaming, i would suggest the xbox360.

the laptop shown there i believe has integrated graphics card which are never that great and very sketchy on the upgrades. any laptop bought for the price of the 360 will be seriously stripped down when it comes to its gaming capability.

if you need a laptop though, you need a laptop. so get that instead.

It all depends on your particular situation. If just for gaming the 360 is clearly the best and cheaper option. However, there are a lot of uses for a laptop besides gaming and it's portable. While you didn't mention all the spec any laptop with a 256mb video card in it should be easily able to run Halo.
