All right this whole time i thought i had a TA-082 motherboard, and it appears that i don't.

I went to downgrade my 2.71 PSP this morning and it said "Your PSP doesn't appear to be TA-082" So i said Okay. So does this mean i can get the modchip instead? I would sooner get the modchip then downgrade.

I'll try and get some pictures. Just what other motherboards are availble? TA-079,TA-082, and TA-081? Sorry for the noob thread..

Well there is nothing on the right side, but on the left side, on the green stuff, under the metal part you can see some text like 10000 something. But its on the left side of the umd case. I can't clearly read anything on the UMD case, including stuff on the top right which is suppose to determine TA-082.

How can i find out if its TA-079 or TA-081? Since the modchip you need one of those motherboards? Or does it work with anything but TA-082?

come on guys you cant just tell him (look on the left and right of the green stuff) o lol'd at that part, anywho.

what you want to do is open your umd door and look to the top inside the case and you will see a green motherboard, look to the left and to the right, if theirs some text usualy in gold writing read it and tell me here or google it, if their is no text viewable then you have one of the good motherboards that can be used to downgrade your psp.

if you are still unsure where this text may be, google image search "TA-082"and their will be diagrams showing you where the text is, you can download downgraders at www.psp-hacks.com, their live chat is good if you want live help and theirs usualy quite a few active people.

good luck.

hes on bout whether he can use a mod chip or not.
dont matter if he has a ta-082 motherboard if he was downgrading cos there downgradable.

go on the modchip website to see if its only ta-082's that are uncompatable. shud say on there mate.
how come you want a mod chip? fair bit of a mess on fitting them.

Well you see i got the unpatched GTA, but im too worried about bricking my PSP.. even though ive written flash stuff to it before, i heard downgrading can brick easiar. I guess the modchip would unbrick, but i don't know if i should downgrade or not.

iv downgraded a few times and only had a psp to play with for a few mounths. didnt no anything about them till i got one and never bricked one when downgrading. there is a risk but only small. as long as you do exactly what it tells you to do and make sure your charger is pluged in you should be fine mate.
i use the aio package and it tells you step by step what to do.
http://www.psp-hacks.com/file/1044 <<< thats it.
or see if you live near anyone that will do it for you.
