Hi people.

Right first off, I have absolutely no idea about Networks/Routers/etc.

I?m quite handy on a PC so you don?t have to use newbie terms!

Also, in the pictures and information I?m about to post links for, you may notice I have gone over-kill on the detail, but I have done that merely to prevent 100?s of posts of confusion and in the hope that this problem can be resolved within 10 posts! lol

Right first off,

I have AOL Broadband (UK) Platinum 2, which is 2Mbps ? 8Mbps, but mine averages at 6.5Mbps.

The Modem I use is the one I had free with my AOL subscription.

It is a BT VOYAGER 105 ADSL modem and you can see details on it here;

http://www.voyager.bt.com/usb_modems/voyager_105/product_info.htm

It has literally JUST TWO PORTS ? one for a USB cable that connects it to the PC for power and connectivity, and one for the telephone line from the Modem to Socket/Filter.
Here is a picture of the back of my modem, and one of the other end of the cables;

http://img376.imageshack.us/img376/5897/phonesocketsetupwe4.jpg
http://img376.imageshack.us/img376/558/modeminfoua5.jpg

Right that is the set-up of my Broadband internet connection ? no more, no less.

There are no Ethernet LAN ports or Network adapter cards or whatever they?re called! Lol

That is it!

Right, now comes the tricky part!

I?ve purchased THIS ADSL Broadband Modem with built in Router! ? YES YES YES, remember it is TWO IN ONE ? A Router AND an ADSL MODEM!
Please try to remember it is both in one before we can proceed!
Here are the product details of the ROUTER *SLASH* ADSL MODEM;

http://svp.co.uk/products-solo.php?pid=1883

Right ? As you are probably aware, I have purchased the above MODEM/ROUTER, now here are the contents of the Boxed MODEM/ROUTER which came back today;
http://img296.imageshack.us/img296/8859/contentxp7.jpg

So now you see that I?ve got all the parts (And a spare Ethernet cable which I bought separately) ? Time now to take a look at the BACK and FRONT of my MODEM/ROUTER as to help with setting it up;

http://img134.imageshack.us/img134/1304/backofmodemrouterdc2.jpg
http://img296.imageshack.us/img296/372/frontofmodemrouterkz2.jpg

Right ? So now that you?ve seen my current internet connection and the new MODEM/ROUTER than I want to install, time now to give me some advice please! Lol As I?m totally lost!

Oh and I don?t know where I got this from, but I?m sure you need a Network adapter or something or other, so I?ve got yet another picture for you! Lol ? It?s of my Device Manager/ Network Settings;

http://img256.imageshack.us/img256/5052/devicemanagerdt5.png

And to go OVERKILL on the details as I?ve said, here are ALL the instructions that came with the MODEM/ROUTER ? scanned and ready for your viewing;

Installation Document 1 - http://img299.imageshack.us/img299/2162/intallationinst1xg7.jpg

Installation Document 2 - http://img264.imageshack.us/img264/6623/installationinst2xn5.jpg

Installation Document 3 - http://img404.imageshack.us/img404/623/installationinst3ea6.jpg

Installation Document 4 ? http://img253.imageshack.us/img253/1333/installationinst4hv8.jpg

Installation Document 5 - http://img144.imageshack.us/img144/552/installationinst5in5.jpg

Well there you have it ? Four hours worth of pictures, scanning, cutting pasting, resizing, typing, etc.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE can somebody help me get this baby up and running read for MY PS3!!?

Thank you very much in advance and I will greatly appreciate any good advice!

Looks like everything you provided is sufficient enough for you to FOLLOW DIRECTIONS!!! but once you get through this you'll realized it isn't that hard.

From what I understand a modem works as a modem no matter what model it is, so unplug the previous existing modem from your PC to make room for your new modem/router.

Plug in the 12V power supply to the back of your new modem/router and connect to a power outlet.

In installationinst5in5.jpg you'll find the filter connecting and splitting the phone line and broadband service should be installed to the phone jack. The filter has 2 plugs, right? one is for your telephone (B) and one for your ethernet (C), connect (B) to your phone and plug an ethernet cable to (C). Now connect the other end of the ethernet cable to your new modem/router in the ADSL port.

Now with the ethernet cable that was connecting your old modem to the PC, please insert one end of that ethernet cable to the LAN1 port and the other end to the PC's ethernet port.

Power on your PC, insert software CD...set up your WIFI to your personal setting (whatever tickles your pickle), I prefer a WEP encryption to keep others from unknowingly steal your internet ISP. Now set your ADSL ISP settings. Here is where you'll set up your new modem/router to recognize your AOL broadband service. Confirm everything and you are good to go...you now have wireless coverage and are able to wirelessly connect to a 60GB PS3 with built in WIFI.

Remember...I'm new.

IT WORKS!!!

Cheers mate!

Thank you very much for your reply - it was very kind of you!

It was a LOT easier than I thought!

This is great, I don't have to sign into AOL now to browse the internet and I don't have to listen to anymore "Welcome to AOL" crap!

And dare I say it, it's actually a lot faster! - Don't know if that's the Placebo effect!

OMG - PS3 is coming in 9 days and I'll be straight online to get beat by some Japanese and Americans who have had tonnes of practice!

LOL Thanks again matey!!!

Oh, one thing that confuses me - It asked me to set up security or some crap so I just went along with it and it created a WEP passphrase and WEP key or something! - Now I have no idea what the hell that means! lol

Would someone be kind enough to elaborate!

Will this interfere with my PS3 online gaming or something!?

a wep key is a very secure password that must be entered into the recieving device (in this case- the ps3). when you get your ps3 and go to network connections, you will see your ssid (network name). then, when you select it, you'll be given the option to enter a wep key. just put in that key there and you'll be on your way
