Im having a problem getting my ps3 to play Casino Royal,my 1st blu ray movie,in 720p. I have a mitsubishi 52in Dlp tv about 2 years ago,in can go up to 1080i and 720p,i go into my PS3 settings and see its set for 720p and 1080i but the movie will only play in 1080i,when i tried to change the settings on the PS3 for just 480 and 720p,when i played the movie,it only played in 480ps.So as it stands i can only get this to play in 480P or 1080i,can anyone tell me how i can get to play in 720p,thank you
I have a HD set, what should I set my PS3 resolution to?
1080.
But what if my tv will only display 720p?
Most HD sets can accept signals higher than they can display. In this case, your television will downconvert 1080p to 720p. If you select 720p, the PS3 will convert your lovely Blu-ray movie to 480p.
Why does it do this?
Many guess this is an oversight that Sony will fix later. Until then, 1080.
Just set the output to 1080i and let your 720p DLP do the rest.

You have a DLP set which is by definition a fixed-pixel display. This means that no matter what signal you send the result will always be a Progressive picture that's in the native resolution of the display - in this case would likely be 1280 x 720p. If you send it a 1080i signal the TV scales it to 720p. This is actually better in most cases since the TV usually does a better job in converting the signal from 1080i to 720p. Since your source is a BluRay disc it's better to leave the signal at 1080i and let the TV scale it to 720p.
