I've used afterdawn's "DVD to VCD with SmartRipper, DVD2AVI and TMPGEnc" several times now but its taking me ages to get the job done..the last time it was about 10/12hours to get everthing to vcd (i'm using 800Mhz, 256ram, tons of gigs left)...I've heard there are other programs which do everything within an hour without needing any user input, is this all false or do they exist?

p.s. sorry for the length of my questions, I know others are having basic problems with getting a dvd ripped from the start let-alone me wanting the time sped up.

Encoding with excellent quality, like SVCD, with certain movies, using 4-pass encoding or better, can take upto 24hrs with P4/2000.

It is total b.s. to claim that you can backup DVD with acceptable quality to CD within one hour. And even with DVD->VCD conversion, sure you can speed things up like using faster encoders (compared to TMPGEnc) or drop the Motion search precision to lowest level, etc. But the quality will suck.

This is one of those things -- you take the short way and the results that simply suck will haunt you forever :-) Most of us tend to have this weird 7-12h period each day what we call "night" or "sleeping time" when we leave our computers on and let them finish the encoding meanwhile.

This "sleep" thing i gotta look into it, cheers dude..i suppose the quality i'm getting is top notch, so it is worth the wait
