I got my 360 by someone modded back in around october-november. I dont know what version i have. I wanted to try to update it myself. Are there different steps to update the flashed firmware than flash it for the first time? I have a hitachi drive

Before I get flamed away here, I'd like to say that it wasn't a deliberate thing, by any means:

I have a flashed drive, but I do not have a backup of the original flash. It was lost when the drive in my pc failed completely, about two days after the flash process. All the data was lost, and no backup had been made yet.

Do you think it is okay/wise to update the firmware on this drive to the latest version, since I am running an old version? It still works fine and everything, but I'm reading that there may be some benefits to updating, so I thought I would ask.

I hate being the one to ask this; because I am always so gung ho about keeping the originals; but there's really not much I can do in this situation.

Has anyone re-flashed their firmware without flashing back to the original? Is that okay? Sorry if it's a dumb question, but this is NOT my area of expertise.

just get the firmware thats on it now, and keep it, all you need is the key that is in the firmware, your fine as long as you have that key, just get it, and then store it and flash it with the newest firmware
