i just got a ps2 and im thinking of modding it. its a V7. ive read all the faqs and such but still need some opinions before i choose a chip.

i know i should get a dms or a matrix, but i cant really justify the money since the console itself was only $60.

i was looking at a duo3 gold, or a marsII as a budget chip.

i dont need to play online. i dont need to play multiple disc games.

so people with experience, is there some good reason to shell out the extra cash?

Duo chips are very good and stable. They just can not be upgraded and lack some of the higher end features that a Crystal Chip V2.0, DMS4 Pro SE or Matrix Infinity green dot would have.
If all you want is something to play back up games (DVD5 not dual layer) then you will be just fine with a Duo3 Gold or Duo3 GT.

i thought the duo3 could do dual layer?

anyway, i took it all apart today to see how small the solder points were for that chip, and some of them look a bit too small for me to be confident with, so I'm leaning towards used games off amazon, still thanks for the response.

yeah, they are tiny.
http://www.teammodders.com/
that site has install pictures if you want to check them out.
They also sell premodded systems and do installs.

game stores like Gamestop and EBgames you can get great deals at these days. The original Splinter Cell is down to $2.99 now.
problem is that finding some games may be hard as you have to rely on the fact that someone did not like it, and returned it.

yeah, used games seem to be pretty cheap, even for popular stuff like god of war, i just feel weird paying for any kind of media, heh.

the things is that online you can find many more games, and harder to find stuff then in any game store. I have a friend who has an Xbox and wanted kids games. The game store had about 5 of them. He found over 25 of them online.
