DVD X Copy Platinum released

article published on 4 September, 2003

321 Studios has released a new DVD backup tool called DVD X Copy Platinum. DVD X Copy Platinum features new TDF technology, which allows the user to customize the compression level of each title set individually. The self-made TDF-files can also be shared with other Platinum-users. DVD X Copy Platinum finally features support for episodic discs, which means that backups of series DVDs, ... [ read the full article ]

yeah, and finding people ignorant enough to dish out 120 when dvd shrink is free. I have absolultly no respect for 321 studios because of such a blatant capatalization of people.

I totally agree! I never understood why you would spend money on DVD Express when DVD shrink is not only free, I find that it works better. If anyone is reading this and has not heard of DVD Shrink, you owe it to yourself to research it.

agreed. dvdshrink is THE tool. one thing 321 missed is the flipper-dvd backup option, which will be featured in the next dvdshrink version. i simply can't wait.

I use dvd2one and i find it,if not the best, one of the best dvd compression programs out right now, even though,i have no room to compare it to dvd shrink b/c i have never used dvd shrink, could somone tell me the differences and advantages that dvdshrink may have over dvd2one?

I have from day one, since i got my pioneer dvd burner, have used dvd2one and never had any reason to try another program to process and make a dvd movie fit on a 4.7 gb dvd-r.

What some of you guts fail to realise is that dvdxcopy was released nearly a year ago. DVDshrink/One2One were nowhere to be seen a year ago. I purchased xcopy in Nov02 which means I'm entitled to a free upgrade to plat. Depending on how youn want to backup your DVD shrink or one2one may have had the edge, platinum promises to do it all. For those of us who are getting it free anyway I say "bring it on".

I don't understand why you people have to knock a product that someone is trying to make money on. If it were your product, you wouldn't give it away either. They probably need better support and better response times, however they are still only trying to make money to possibly improve their product or come up with newer products, and to line their pockets.

firewire-

originally dvdxcopy would only copy discs on 2 dvd-r's, no compression. It's good you get a free upgrade, but for those of us that don't already own dvdxcopy its bad.

ricrac-

They capatalize on ignorant ppl! dvdshrink is a better program with better upgrade support and it's free - about dvdxcopy, POSSIBLY improve thier products is right, busineses are in the market to make money...no one can say what the coompany will do in the future or how they will or won't improve thier product - you mention lining thier pockets, I guess your ok with paying for some ceo or investor you've never heard of and giving them the life of luxury everyone dreams about, rather than saving the money and spend on something that you don't have as much control over (because you would be deciding to line someone elses pockets when you don't have to).

The point i was trying to make is that everytime dvdxcopy makes an upgrade, they add something dvd shrink has had since it was created.

if i had a lot of money i wouldn't even think of compressing or even watching a dvd on a computer. standalone+plasma screen. if i had some xtra money i would give it to the dvdshrink team cause thank them i can enjoy movies at home. but since i merely survive i only thank them and everyone who's NOT supporting ultra-richness!

You know what, dvdxcopy is fighting in civil court for fair use rights for dvd owners. They need the money. It is going to a worthy cause, like fighting for our rights. I still use shrink though, but if people want to pay that much for it, let them be happy.

Not everyone is supporting the "ultra rich", just because they buy the software from 321. Some people actually don't have the experience on a pc, to know how to do the recording the way you guys do.I applaud you for having that knowledge, however, some of us also don't have the time to devote to it like you apparently do. Some of us have kids in sports, summertime activities with the family, and last but certainly not least, we have to work. So although some people think that it is for the lazy person, maybe it is for people who want to back up dvd's but don't have enough time to go through the long drawn out method that you incorporate.

I agree with firewire. I purchased DXC & Express more than 1 year ago when other than the use of 3 or 4 different programs to rip a movie, which took me more than 8 hours to completely burn a backup, 321's product was the only simple program around. Recently, I started using DVDShrink too. To date, I like Shrink the best and not only because it's free but because it allows a lot more control of the final movie.

Anyway, the problem I have is with AfterDawns posted review of Platinum. Specifically, "The first impressions of the software are very positive indeed."

Hasn't from anyone at AfterDawn read all the very negative posts on the AfterDawn XCopy forum? How can you say "very positive" is beyond me.

oriphus, unless it is in agreeance with your opinion then you think you have to be an ass@*@*. Quite frankly some of us have real jobs and don't have the time to dedicate to recording dvds. We also have lives outside your computer lived world, so if you don't like it, simply say so, but don't go out of your way to bash a product simply because you can't afford it, or have to actually pay for it.

While both sides of this debate raise good reasons for their personal preference, it seems like the bulk of this arguement revolves around FREE vs. FEE. I happen to be one of those not-so-rich users that can't afford to buy every new version that comes on the market. I purchased DVD X Copy Gold just 4 weeks ago. 7 days ago, I learned that it was already going to be obsoleate with the release of Platinum. But I was very pleased with the fact that 321 didn't see the need to charge me all over again. Instead, they had qualified me for a FREE upgrade to Platinum. You and I both know that they didn't have to. But a company that treats their customers like this deserve my patronage. So maybe I had to pay something. But I'm getting exactly what I paid for...High quality software and quality customer support.

I am not against anyone having an opinion, it is their right. It is how it is presented. There is no need or reason to bash a product or company. If you don't like there product for whatever reason, then simply state your reasons and go on with your life. You don't have to get upset with other people for choosing to buy or use their product. I don't get upset because you choose to get it for free. However as I have stated before, some of us don't have the time to devote to learning this procedure that you use. It seems like an awful lot to go through just to make up a backup copy. I personally don't have enough time in my day to try and learn all that "may" be needed to learn, so I chose the fastest and easiest way to backup my dvds. I am not out to hurt anyone, just offering an opinion.

Before, yes it was a lot of work to copy dvds. Now you just use dvdshrink to pick what you want in your dvd and to compress it. Then you just use your dvd burning software to burn.

Dvd shrink is so easy to learn you will laugh when you see it.

It is free. It is easy. It's not one click but it is easy.

Don't be lazy. It takes less than 5 minutes to learn and you have so much more control over the options.

No one is suing DVD Shrink are they? You want to know why? Because DVD Shrink had not even been imagined when X COPY came out. I'm glad there are free options out there, it actually helps increase the awareness.

But you might actually want to research your ludicrous claims that 321 is doing nothing but ripping people off. Last time I looked, 321 was the ONLY company standing up for your rights in the United States and now in Great Britain. And if 321 fails to withstand the mighty onslaught of Hollywood, you can bet that freeware programs like DVD Shrink will not be far behind, and in the end you all lose. That includes you freeware users as well.

We are the only company in the world standing up for consumer fair use rights and have publicly stated many times over that ALL our profits are poured back into our legal fight and making our technology better. That translates into better products and protection of your freedoms. We've never asked one person for one thin dime for our legal defense and that is also public record.

So before you go making such ridiculous claims that 321 is all about profit and money, you might want to consider what Hollywood is all about and how 321 has put its money where its mouth is.

321 is doing everything possible to ensure that your future is not stolen from you by the true pirates in this world, the corporate monopolies and monolithic congolomerates known collectively as the Entertainment Industry.

Cheers!
